Point to Point Patchwork & Quilting present the "100th Anniversary depicted in Stitch" exhibition - 29th March to 29th May 2017

This event runs from 10:00am on the 8th April 2017, to 5:00pm on the 29th May 2017 and will take place at Chelmsford Museum Oaklands Park Moulsham Street Chelmsford CM2 9AQ. It is being organised by Point to Point Patchwork & Quilting, Margaret Shears, Point to Point Patchwork and Quilting.

The 100th anniversary for the men of the Essex Regiment who took part in the Battle of Gaza on 26 and 27 March  1917 is being remembered in an usual way at an exhibition at Chelmsford Museum.  Patchwork,  quilting, appliqué  and embroidery are used to depict a book which tells the story of the campaign together with  39 stitched  ‘postcards’ which are winging their way back home to Essex.  Interspersed with the postcards are pictures of men from the regiment in 1917, some showing them with their wives and families to whom the postcards would have been sent.

The work has been created by members of the Point to Point Patchwork and Quilting group who meet in Galleywood each week.  The aim is not to depict the war itself but rather to give a flavour of the sights and experiences  the men would have encountered living in a land so very different from the villages of Essex and these are depicted in the ‘postcards’.

Members of Point to Point Patchwork,  volunteers of the Essex Regiment Museum, local councillors and invited guests enjoyed a private viewing of the work before it opened to the public.

The exhibition runs from 29 March 2017 to 29 May 2017.  Entry to the museum and exhibition is free.
