Contemporary Inspirations

We are looking forward to our next mini-exhibition - Contemporary Inspirations - will be running from 29th January to 2nd February 2018 at The Quilters’ Guild, St Anthony’s Hall, Peasholme Green, open from 10 am to 4 pm daily.

This exhibition has been curated by our PhD student intern, Catherine Evans. She writes:

"This week-long show will bring together many of our most recent acquisitions, including Pauline Burbidge’s “Honesty Skyline”. The exhibition explores how fifteen quilters have developed their practice over the last twenty years, combining high levels of craftsmanship with innovations in printing and design. The artists included have been inspired by techniques and practices from all over the world, from traditional Inuit embroidery, to north country strippy quilts, to Japanese wall hangings. The works exhibited demonstrate that quilts continue to be an exciting vehicle for artistic expression, providing a unique forum to explore contemporary issues from industrial farming to homelessness."

This is one of the four exhibitions we will be running this year, with support from the new Friends of the Collection scheme. An annual friend membership costs £15 per annum (£10 for Quilters’ Guild Members) and gives you entry to all the exhibitions throughout the year, plus free entry for a friend for any two exhibitions in that year.
Individual exhibition admission is £3 per exhibition, booked in advance through the Eventbrite website (please search for ‘Eventbrite Contemporary Inspirations’ or follow the link at the top of the facebook page and note there is a small booking fee). The exhibition is free for students with valid IDs.
