Guild member Hilary Jackson provided a stand and drop-in workshop aimed at children and young people at the Maker Faire held in Newcastle last weekend (27 and 28 April). Assisted only by her husband Lawrie, Hilary helped around 90 people to ‘have a go’ at small patchwork and quilting projects such as small gadget bags and friendship bracelets.
Hilary says “We had participants aged from 3 years (with a bit of parental help!) to over 60 years and all enjoyed making something and learning new skills. The event was a great success and enabled us to talk to lots of people about The Guild. The organisers were very interested in our stand and greatly admired the display of quilts both traditional and modern. They are encouraging a wide range of textile crafts alongside the science and technology projects.”
