Irene MacWilliam

I have been involved with textiles since I was five and three quarters.
Since 1985 I have been a member of both the Northern Ireland Patchwork Guild and the Northern Ireland Embroidery Guild.
I make work for exhibitions and I also teach and give talks about my work.
In 1986 I made my First Events of the Year Quilt. There are now 27 of these, each has 20 panels depicting world events. I lost interest in them. These are now in the collection of The Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, Cultra. National Museums N Ireland.
For the past few years I have made pieces using black and white stripes to make optical illusion hangings. I also have a large number of pieces to do with political issues such as starvation, environment, climate change and conflict as it affects families. Many of these are on loan to Roberta Bacic, curator and human rights campaigner. She has taken them to all sorts of venues and many countries where I would not normally have my work shown.
