Joy Edgington

I have been a full time patchwork and quilting tutor since 2011 and I love teaching a wide range of classes aimed at both beginners and improvers. Each year I offer new classes and I have a number of returning students. They will tell you that my favourite class saying is Greater Accuracy and Attention to Detail!

I have been a guest designer on The Sewing Quarter television channel since it began in 2017. Through this medium I am able to promote the craft and share techniques with viewers who are unable to access traditional classes.

I like to design my own quilts and projects and have had designs published in Today's Quilter magazine. I strive to combine modern techniques with traditional designs to embrace the diversity of patchwork and quilting.

For 2018 I collaborated with the composer Susie Self in the production of an opera called Quilt Song to celebrate the 300 year anniversary of the 1718 Coverlet. Alongside this many of my students made their own tribute quilts. Some of these were exhibited at Festival of Quilts and one took first prize.

I have been a Project Linus Co-ordinator since 2004 for Birmingham South and the surrounding districts and run 3 monthly clubs dedicated to making Linus quilts. Being able to use the skills I have learnt over the years to provide comfort to children who are ill or have been traumatised in some way is very rewarding.
