Shirley Bloomfield

Since a child I have loved stitching and trained as a teacher of textiles and design, teaching in High School for 23 years. Following early retirement in 1997, I was able to develop my interest in the beautiful Baltimore Album Quilts made in America in the mid 19th century. This led to developing my own 'take' on the genre - Baltimore with an English Twist -inspired by my cottage garden in Suffolk. I have designed a range of applique patterns, teach workshops in the UK and internationally as well as writing two books. The first 'The Applique Garden' published in 2006 is now out of print but my second book 'Beyond the Applique Garden' was published in 2013 and includes techniques for hand and machine applique and designs which go beyond the tradional Baltimore blocks. I particularly enjoy developing dimensional flowers such as foxgloves, roses and waterlilies to add to my applique designs. Please see my website for more details.
