Volunteering with The Guild

As a voluntary organisation, run by its members, The Quilters' Guild offers many opportunities to become involved as a volunteer at local level, national level and at the Quilt Museum and Gallery. Volunteering is vitally important to The Guild as without our volunteers nothing would happen!

Volunteering in Your Region

Many members begin volunteering simply by helping out at events. The regional committee is always glad to receive offers of help with setting up for events, serving tea or selling raffle tickets. It is really useful if you contact the event organiser in advance to ask how you can help.

All events in your region are organised by the regional committee. There are many roles on a regional committee: in addition to the regional co-ordinator (Chair of the committee) and regional treasurer, roles include newsletter editor, Young Quilters representative, web site editor and area representatives. As members can only serve three years in a role, new volunteers are always needed. Why not help to make Guild events happen in your region? National Officer Roles

National Officers take responsibility for a particular activity within The Guild nationwide. Current National Officer roles include:

National Officers undertake the role for three years and vacancies are advertised in the Winter edition of The Quilter each year.  Watch out for the announcement and have a chat with the current officer if you would be interested in applying for the role.  Click to see the current national officers

Trustees and Directors

As a charity and company limited by guarantee, The Quilters' Guild has a voluntary board of directors who are also trustees of the charity. The board is made up of the President of The Guild, the Treasurer and up to ten more people who bring their skills, experience and knowledge to support The Guild's small staff in running the organisation. Trustees hold office for three years and may serve for a second term if there are no suitable volunteers to replace them. The President serves a two-year term.  Click to see the current trustees / directors of The Guild. The Quilters' Guild has a trading company - Festival of Quilts Ltd., which trades as Quilters' Guild Enterprises and is responsible for all The Guild's trading activity, including The Quilters' Guild on-line shop and organising the annual Conference. Festival of Quilts Ltd. has voluntary directors who support the Retail Manager in choosing stock and running the company.

Vacancies for trustee / director roles are advertised in the Winter edition of The Quilter and candidates are elected at The Guild's Annual General Meeting, held at Conference each year. Look for information in The Quilter and talk to the President if you are interested in volunteering for these roles.

Volunteering with The Quilters' Guild Collection

A small number of volunteers help the curator to care for the Quilters' Guild Collection.  When there is an exhibition there is often a need for volunteer stewards.  When stewards are needed there will be a notice asking for volunteers in your Regional magazine.

Volunteering at Festival of Quilts

The competition quilts and exhibition galleries at Festival of Quilts are stewarded by volunteers organised by The Quilters' Guild. Volunteers have free entry to the show when they volunteer for two 2-hour slots on one day at the Festival.  For more information, see the Festival of Quilts page.
